Liverpool is becoming increasingly confident about reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace for defender Marc Guehi, as reported by insider Dave OCKOP.
The Premier League champions are looking to strengthen their defense following their £186 million spending spree in June, with Guehi identified as a key target for manager Arne Slot.
With academy graduate Jarell Quansah set to leave, Liverpool is keen to find a replacement, and Guehi has emerged as a top candidate after positive discussions.
It is not anticipated that personal terms will be a problem, as the ‘world-class’ England international is supportive of the move, especially with just one year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.
Dave OCKOP noted that Liverpool is optimistic about finalizing a fee with Palace for Guehi this summer, rather than waiting for a free transfer next year.
While Arsenal and Newcastle could still pose competition, recent talks have intensified, with direct communication established among all parties.
Palace had previously resisted selling Guehi, turning down offers from Tottenham and Newcastle that did not meet their valuation. However, their negotiating power has diminished, as Guehi has only one season left on his contract and seems open to a new opportunity.
Liverpool is currently the highest spender in the Premier League this summer, having made significant signings, including Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong.
In addition to a center-back, the Reds are also reportedly interested in acquiring a striker, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike being one of their targets.
