Liverpool’s Portuguese forward Diogo Jota, 28, died in a fiery car crash near Zamora in northwestern Spain with his brother, Spanish state-owned TV station said on Thursday, citing local firefighters . The Portuguese international was travelling with his brother Andre at the time of the accident. Their vehicle reportedly left the carriageway.

The crash reportedly happened along the A-52 highway in the Zamora province of Spain’s Castilla and León region. Emergency services confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement, disclosing that the accident was reported at kilometre 65 of the A-52 in Cernadilla, Zamora .

Local fire officials in Zamora, Spain, said two men aged 28 and 26 died in a car crash after their vehicle caught fire . Jota’s brother, Andre Silva, has also died in the car crash.

The tragedy comes just two weeks after Jota’s wedding. The accident occurred around 1:30 am on the night of Wednesday to Thursday at kilometer 65 of the A-52 near Cernadilla.
