Thomas Partey Charged to Court for Disturbing Serious Assault

In a big legal development today, Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1993), of Hertfordshire, has been charged by the Metropolitan Police Service with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.  This marks a major escalation in the case that has been ongoing for over two years.

Two counts of rape relate to one woman 

Three counts of rape relate to a second woman 

One count of sexual assault relates to a third woman 

The offences are reported to have taken place between 2021 – 2022.

The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which commenced in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape.  This means the investigation has been ongoing for over two years before formal charges were brought.

Impact on Partey’s Career

Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault with the offences relating to three women reportedly have taken place in 2021 and 2022, midfielder joined Arsenal in 2020 for £45m and left the club when his contract expired on Monday. 

The timing is particularly surprising as Partey’s Arsenal contract expired just days ago, making him a free agent at the time these charges were formally announced.

Police Statement

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the investigation, emphasized their priorities: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team.” 

Court Appearance

Thomas Partey will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August.  This will be his first formal court appearance since the charges were filed.

The case has been in the public eye for some time, with Partey currently awaiting a charging decision for counts of sexual assault against five women, including an a former flame who famously called him out on X formerly known as Twitter over a year ago.
