Barcelona Go For Luis Diaz After Devastating Nico Williams Heartbreak

Published on

Luis Diaz has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months, with the Catalan giants thought to be weighing up a £66million move for the Liverpool star.  Barcelona has identified Díaz as a key target following their failed pursuit of Nico Williams.

Barcelona is reportedly not willing to pay any more than €60 million ($69 million) to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool this summer.  This creates a big problem as Liverpool values the Colombian winger much higher than Barcelona’s budget allows.

Yet more work would have to be done to land Diaz which once again makes it difficult to see the Liverpool star making the move this summer.  Barcelona would need to make a “major sale” to fund any potential move for Díaz.

Liverpool’s Stance

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has openly admitted that the club is still on the hunt for a new forward, following Liverpool’s rebuff of interest in Luis Diaz.  Liverpool has consistently rejected Barcelona’s approaches and has no intention of selling their star winger.

However, there’s an interesting twist regarding Díaz’s contract situation. It was reported by The Athletic that the Reds have no interest in selling Diaz, but also won’t be offering him a new contract. As it stands, Diaz has two years left to run on his deal.  This creates a complex situation where Liverpool wants to keep the player but isn’t offering improved terms.

Player’s Position

Díaz has conveyed that he is content at Liverpool but is open to departing Anfield if a suitable opportunity presents itself.  The Colombian has admitted to speaking with other clubs about potential moves while maintaining he would be happy to stay at Liverpool.

The situation has become more complicated with other clubs entering the race. Bayern Munich have reportedly stepped up their interest in Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.  This adds another dimension to the transfer saga, with Barcelona now facing competition from the German giants.

Current Status

After missing out on Nico Williams, Barcelona remains in the market for a winger but faces big financial obstacles in pursuing Díaz. The club’s interest remains strong, but their inability to meet Liverpool’s valuation and Liverpool’s unwillingness to sell makes a deal highly unlikely in the immediate future.

The saga continues to develop, with Bayern Munich’s recent interest potentially forcing Barcelona to either increase their offer or look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.
