Chelsea Secures The Signing Of Top Rated Brazilian Superstar

Chelsea has reached an agreement in principle with Brighton to sign Joao Pedro, who is currently traveling to America for a medical examination. The Brazilian forward is set to sign a seven-year contract lasting until the summer of 2032, pending formalities.

The transfer fee is approximately £55 million, with an additional £5 million in add-ons, and Brighton will retain a sell-on clause. Chelsea accelerated negotiations over the last 48 hours to ensure Pedro can be registered for the Club World Cup. The transfer window closes on July 3, and Chelsea will face Palmeiras on July 4 in Philadelphia, where Pedro could potentially make his debut.

Last season, the 23-year-old Pedro scored 10 goals and provided six assists in the Premier League, although he missed Brighton’s final two matches due to a training ground incident with Jan Paul van Hecke.

Brighton was open to selling him as long as their £50 million-plus valuation was met. Pedro expressed a strong preference for a move to Chelsea after learning of their serious interest, despite Newcastle United also making a compelling offer earlier.

Chelsea initially hesitated to pursue Pedro in May but decided to engage in discussions in June while in America. They concluded that Pedro’s versatility and fit within their system make him a valuable addition, especially with Christopher Nkunku expected to leave.

Pedro will join Jamie Gittens, another new signing, at Chelsea. Gittens, a left-winger from Dortmund, has already completed his medical for a £55 million move. However, he cannot participate in the Club World Cup as he is registered with Dortmund, which prevents players from competing for two clubs in the tournament.

Chelsea has acted swiftly to secure key signings this summer, including Liam Delap from Ipswich for £30 million, who scored his first goal for the club against ES Tunis. Dario Essugo, another summer acquisition from Sporting, was pre-agreed before the window opened, while Estevao Willian will officially join Chelsea after the Club World Cup, although he must first face them with Palmeiras in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea believes they have completed most of their transfer business but are still considering whether to bring in another forward. Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike is a potential target, depending on whether Nicolas Jackson leaves. The club is also exploring the possibility of signing another centre-back, with interest in Jorrel Hato. Additionally, Chelsea attempted to acquire Milan keeper Mike Maignan before the Club World Cup, but rumors linking them to Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez appear to be unfounded.
