AS Monaco have secured the signing of Barcelona winger Ansu Fati on a season-long loan deal, with the club making the transfer announcement official today.
Agreement remains a loan with the main part of the salary covered plus €11m buy option clause for AS Monaco. According to an official report, AnsuFati will get the shirt number 31 as one more signing completed by Thiago Scuro and Carlos Avina of Monaco.
The 22-year-old Spanish international was wanted by several Clubs including Chelsea but decided to join Monaco on a season long loan.
He arrived in Monaco on Thursday evening, June 27, and passed his medical examination. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed this on his social media post. Monaco on the other hand has officially announced the deal on Tuesday, July 1.
The agreement includes a loan for the 2025-26 season with a purchase option valued at €12 million. Barcelona will retain a significant percentage of Fati’s economic rights should Monaco decide to sell him in the future.
Barcelona had attempted to negotiate a preferential buy-back clause set at around €28 million, though this was not included in the final agreement.
Fati was the talk of the time a few years ago before Lamine Yamal. He was a bright teenager who was tipped to become Messi’s successor until injury disrupted his growth and since then he has been trying to find his feet. He was sent on a loan to Brighton in the English Premier League and endured a difficult 2024-25 campaign at Barcelona, making just three starts across all competitions. The former La Masia graduate failed to score in any competition this season, accumulating only 135 minutes of playing time.
His iconic No. 10 shirt has been reassigned to rising star Lamine Yamal. Fati’s Barcelona contract runs until 2027, but the club has allowed him to leave on loan.
Monaco’s Champions League Ambitions
The move comes as Monaco prepare for their return to the Champions League next season. The French club are looking to strengthen their squad depth, with Fati joining their attacking options. They have also signed Paul Pogba who has just returned from his punishment after failing a drug test.
Fati’s career has been hampered by injuries in recent years, limiting his development since breaking through as a teenager at Barcelona. The loan move will give another opportunity for the Spain international to rebuild his career and secure regular playing time.
The official announcement from AS Monaco has been made today.
