Jhon Duran Joins Fenerbahce in a Surprise Move

Colombian striker Jhon Duran has officially completed his remarkable return to European football, signing a one-year loan contract with Turkish giants Fenerbahce from Al-Nassr, just six months after his record-breaking €77 million transfer to Saudi Arabia.

The 21-year-old forward has successfully passed his medical examinations and signed his official contract with Fenerbahce, joining Jose Mourinho’s ambitious project for the upcoming Super Lig season.

Contract Completed and Transfer Finalized

After successfully completing a medical test, Jhon Duran has signed a 1-year loan contract without a purchase option. Fenerbahçe will cover the majority of his 19.5 million Euro annual salary, and the total transfer cost, including signing bonuses and agent fees, will surpass 20 million Euro.

Fenerbahçe has officially added Jhon Duran to its squad on loan. Duran, who joined Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia last January for 77 million on a five-and-a-half-year contract, became the most expensive Colombian player in history.

Al-Nassr have given the green light for the 21-year-old Colombian striker to leave on loan, with the Turkish club covering his salary and a €16 million loan fee. This is an investment from Fenerbahce as they aim to strengthen their squad under Mourinho’s leadership.

The Colombia international will spend the 2025-2026 season on loan at Fenerbahce, under the guidance of legendary manager José Mourinho.

Mourinho’s Personal Request

The signing of Duran has been an express request from Mourinho, who is looking to strengthen the squad after a previous season in which Fenerbahce finished second behind Galatasaray. The Portuguese manager sees the Colombian striker as a key piece in his plans to challenge for the Turkish Super Lig title.

Devin Özek, Fenerbahce’s football director, traveled to Duran’s home country to complete negotiations and secure the striker’s services for the upcoming season.

The loan signing is a major coup for Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce project. Fenerbahce finished second behind Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig last season and are eager to overtake their rivals. The addition of Duran’s proven goalscoring ability provides the firepower needed to challenge for the title.

Duran’s career has taken a whirlwind turn over the past year. Al-Nassr paid an initial €77m for Duran from Aston Villa in January 2025, although it is thought that bonuses could take the transfer fee up to a whopping €90m.

Despite the big investment, the Colombia international was not a guaranteed starter at Al-Nassr despite scoring prolifically, leading to this opportunity for regular first-team football in Europe.

The 21-year-old forward, who joined Al-Nassr in January 2025 for a staggering €77 million fee, currently holds a market value of €35 million. His brief stint in Saudi Arabia saw him adapt quickly to the league, maintaining his reputation as one of football’s most promising young strikers.

The Colombian joined Al-Nassr in January 2025 in a €70 million move and scored 12 goals during his time in the Saudi Pro League. The loan move comes at an ideal time for all parties involved. Fenerbahce gain a proven goalscorer for their title challenge, Duran secures regular European football under an elite manager, and Al-Nassr can assess their long-term plans for the striker while recouping some of their investment.
