Bruno Guimaraes has said he wants to leave Newcastle United, after speculation surrounding the Brazilian international’s future.
It currently looks like Arsenal is the most likely destination for Newcastle’s skipper, and it’s certainly a move that would make sense for Guimaraes. The Magpies were poor last season and have already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali to Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively, meaning that their chances of competing for Champions League or European spots next season are minimal.
Eddie Howe’s team clearly struggled to adjust after losing their striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a British record fee last summer. They finished 12th in the league last season and were demolished at the Nou Camp by Barcelona in the Champions League.
The season prior, Guimaraes captained the club to League Cup glory, but the chance of more success has reduced massively.
Howe is clearly keen to avoid a repeat of last season’s transfer difficulties with Isak, which means this transfer could go through in a much more straightforward way.
Bruno Guimaraes to Link Up With Declan Rice?
Joining Premier League champions Arsenal seems like the best fit for Guimaraes at 28, whose talent does deserve more success than he’s currently enjoying.
The Gunners signed Declan Rice for £100 million in 2023 and he’s turned out to be one of the best, if not the best signing of the Mikel Arteta era.
Arguably their best player last season, Rice is an ambitious player who has expressed his desire to win the biggest trophies in the sport.
If they were to add Guimaraes to their ranks, Arsenal would certainly strengthen their chances of retaining their Premier League.
Brazilian Players at Arsenal
Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel are both international teammates of Guimaraes’. Brazil ultimately fell short in their quest for an unprecedented sixth World Cup and Guimaraes missed a penalty in their loss to Norway, which was Neymar’s final appearance for the nation.
Nevertheless, he has shown how good he is at the World Cup, chipping in with key assists to help his side make it to the round of 16, and is looking to take that form with him into the new campaign.
The likes of Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Noni Madueke will be the next Arsenal players to take on Norway, who are captained by Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard.
Odegaard was injured for a lot of last season, which could strengthen the chance of Guimaraes nailing down a regular spot at the Emirates if he is to sign for them.

This approach is intelligent; when you win you have to keep building to win even more trophies and that’s clearly what Arteta is looking to do.
With 2 years left on his deal, it shouldn’t take 9 figures to sign Guimaraes. Rather, it will likely be between the £50 and £70 million range.
