Rogers started out at West Brom, before being snapped up by City. However, with the elite talent ahead of him, his hopes of a successful stint at the Etihad fizzled out. Now back in the Midlands playing for Aston Villa, the 23-year-old has impressed a plethora of clubs.
He scored Villa’s third in a 3-0 win against Freiburg in the final of the 2026 Europa League in Istanbul, and the fans would have hoped he’d be fully committed to staying at Villa Park and representing them in next season’s Champions League.
Crowned ‘Player of the Tournament’ for Villa in the Europa League, he has shown he can step up on the big occasion. Arsenal came so close to the Champions League last season, losing to PSG on penalties in the final, showing they’re on the cusp of something even more special than what they achieved in the campaign just gone.
Leandro Trossard has been a good player for Arsenal, but they appear to be adopting a ruthless approach and are allowing the Belgian to move on to Besiktas.
That frees up space for Rogers, who, with respect to Trossard, is an upgrade and someone who would likely walk into the side.
However, Villa know how valuable their man is and won’t let him go without securing big money. They got £100 million for Jack Grealish in 2021, and look set to demand a British record fee of £130 million for their current best player.
Arsenal’s nine-figure signing of Rice has certainly proved a success, and Rogers could soon be linking up with his countryman at the Emirates.
