Real Madrid are currently eyeing up a move for Bayern Munich superstar Michael Olise.
The Frenchman joined the Bundesliga champions in the summer of 2024 after three seasons at Selhurst Park. Since leaving Crystal Palace, he has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as one of the most gifted wingers on the planet.
He has shown his goal-scoring prowess at the Allianz, eclipsing double figures in his two league campaigns at Bayern, both of which ended in Bundesliga glory.
Ever-present among Europe’s best, Bayern haven’t managed to get over the line in the Champions League since 2020 and came close to reaching this year’s final, ultimately falling to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.
While Harry Kane has been excellent for Bayern, playing alongside Olise has certainly helped him. He reached double figures in goals and assists in his first season in Germany, winning their ‘Player of the Season’ award, demonstrating that Kane isn’t a one-man band for Bayern.
Bayern’s squad is certainly capable of delivering the club a seventh European Cup, and they won’t be willing to give up their best players without a fight and a big price tag.
Is Michael Olise’s Prime Still Ahead of Him?
At 24, we may not have seen the best of Olise, and Los Blancos are said to be weighing up a £188 millionmove for the Frenchman, who is also a mainstay in his national side. Les Bleus look like the favourites to win their third World Cup, and Olise has contributed a handful of key assists so far.
When Real Madrid come in for your one of your most talented players, it can be difficult to keep them at the club. But there aren’t many clubs that have the stature and power of Bayern Munich.
It is uncertain whether Olise’s head would be turned after just two seasons at Bayern, but if any club was able to tempt him away, it could be Real Madrid.
Bayern put an end to Madrid’s outside hopes of winning the Champions League last season, and the side from the Spanish capital also fell short in their quest for La Liga glory.
They’ll certainly be keen to put a dent in Madrid’s aspirations of signing one of their best players, which could certainly be a blow, especially considering Olise’s age. When Kingsley Coman departed last summer, a legend left, but at 29, his best years were likely behind him.
Likewise, when Robert Lewandowski moved to Barcelona after years of brilliant service, he was over 30. Olise is different in the sense that he has years ahead of him at the top level, and may even get better over the next few seasons.
Mourinho Returning to Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho is set to return to Real, but it does seem like he is some way past his prime managerial years of the 2000s and early 2010s. His time in charge at a club is often turbulent and short lived, making a move seem risky, especially given the predictable pattern Bayern operate at, where league success is expected every season.
It’ll be difficult to call where this transfer goes (if it goes anywhere) until after the 2026 World Cup has concluded. However, if past big transfers are anything to go by, a massive club tends to get a player’s signature when they too are keen on making the move.
We have seen Jude Bellingham make the switch from the Bundesliga to Real Madrid in recent times and Trent Alexander-Arnold was even willing to leave his boyhood team Liverpool (a massive club in their own right) to join Madrid in 2025.
